Beginning in the mid 90’s, patients started asking Dr. Chen if there was an easier way to get all the various procedures completed that was both less complicated and required less healing time. Traditional implant techniques can take up to 5 years to complete, and in many cases, patients or doctors just give up. The traditional implant techniques involve painful and lengthy procedures that have long periods of downtime, often leaving patients with only a temporary removable denture during this entire process. In some cases, general anesthesia is even required, causing many patients to fear even starting their implant procedures. For years, Dr. Chen and Dr. Cha worked tirelessly to produce dental implants that met the patients’ needs, while eliminating uneccessary trauma(s), while also maintaining the ability to complete all procedures within 3-6 months from the initial visit date. Meanwhile, our patients all have fixed temporary crowns for aesthetics and function. Dr. Chen and Dr. Cha’s 5 in 1 technique has been proven with a 99% success rate for the past 12 years.
During this endeavor, Dr. Chen and Dr. Cha developed 3 patented instruments and two surgical techniques called Hydraulic Sinus Condensing and Vertical Cosmetic Gum Translation to accommodate this challenging patient request. From this dynamic research, the 5 in 1 technique was pioneered. Using this technique, dental implants only take one 30-minute visit to perform all neccessary procedures, allowing the patient to go home with fixed temporary teeth. One office visit, and one visit approximately 3 to 6 months following the initial surgery, and the implant procedure is complete.
Not only does Dr. Chen and Dr. Cha perform the 5 in 1 technique on patients, they also certify other doctors on this technique as well, which has forever changed the way in which dental implant procedures are performed. See below for examples of Dr. Chen, Dr. Cha, and the DII team’s 5 in 1 technique, performed on numerous patients.
CASE 1This patient came in with severe gum disease, age 79. Recently had a brain stent placed and was taking blood-thinners recently. Patient also suffered from diabetes and was a chronic smoker. Tthe above conditions were a contra-indication for traditional implant techniques. He had previously visited numerous other doctors and universities, but he was refused by everyone he saw as he was considered a “hopeless case” by everyone. An infection of this magnitude would hinder his remaining lifetime and with his existing medical conditions, his health and body were steadily deteriorating. After consulting with Dr. Chen and Dr. Cha about their unique 5 in 1 technique, the patient was surprised to hear that they were able to treat all of his issues with a less-invasive, minimal bleeding, while using minimal anesthesia all on the same day of the initial consultation, regardless of his present medical condition. This patient walked out of our office on the same day after full-mouth extraction, sinus lift, bone graft, 28 implants, and 28 fixed temporary teeth. The photos depicted below show the patient before as well as immediately after treatment by Dr. Chen and Dr. Cha by means of their patented and trademarked 5 in 1 technique.
Before and after Panoramic X-rays:
CASE 2This patient, age 65, came in for initial exam having heard of Dr. Chen and Dr. Cha’s 5 in 1 technique before. The diagnosis he received from other doctors was to extract all natural teeth due to untreatable root decay. The only option given was to him to get “ALL ON 4”, which requires tremedous reduction of his healthy jaw bone, which would ultimately be replaced with pink plastic/fake gums . He did not like the idea of having 4 implants supporting a denture. He felt that 4 implants was not strong enough to support his eating habits which consisted of crab and walnuts, and he did not want to sacrifice his quality of life. He also preferred his own natural gums and he would prefer not to sacrifice his healthy bone, but he had not been able to find a technique that would allow him to preserve his own bone and gum, until he found Dr. Chen and Dr. Cha and their 5 in 1 technique. See below for photos of his same-day treatment by Dr. Chen and Dr. Cha by means of their patented 5 in 1 technique.
CASE 3This patient, age 72, had high blood pressure, severe gum infections, and ill-fitting dentures. He was looking for a permanent solution. All the options he was given by other doctors involved placing a bridge over few implants, or else they told him his medical condition would not allow him to successfully have implants at all. Some of the implants appear crooked and/or angled. He did not think the engineering of this method would be a lasting one and he preferred individual teeth in general. One night at dinner, he was addressing his concerns to his friend who then referred him to us. On the initial exam day, Dr. Chen and Dr. Cha were able to perform full-mouth extraction and implants.
CASE 4This female patient, age 66, came in to our office with a full lower bridge. It was becoming loose due to severe gum disease. The natural teeth that the bridge was resting on were infected, causing the whole bridge to rock. Her upper natural teeth had severe root decay, so her husband insisted that she come see us to get this taken care of. Again, the patients stressed the importance of having individual teeth and maintaining their natural gum tissue. Under local anesthesia, Dr. Chen and Dr. Cha were able to perform the minimally invasive 5 in 1 technique, allowing the patient to leave with all extractions and implant placed, with minimal pain, minimal bleeding, and minimal swelling.
CASE 5This female patient is 46 years old weighing in at only 52 pounds. She suffered from low blood count and had a history of drug use, addiction, and anorexia, which caused all of her teeth to deteriorate due to malnutrition. After extensive rehabilitation, she fully recovered. Her family wanted her to start her new life with a new look. She and her family did not like the idea of wearing dentures, especially at her young age. She wanted all individual teeth just like what she had when she was in college.
CASE 6This patient, age 55, had an upper bridge which was being held up by several root canaled teeth. The respective teeth had severe infections, which led directly to the sinus cavity. The infection was so severe on the right side that it caused blurred vision the patient’s right eye. He was going to have emergency sinus surgery by an ENT doctor as they also found a cyst forming in the right sinus cavity, which has to be performed through the nasal cavity. By means of the 5 in 1 technique, Dr. Chen and Dr. Cha were able to extract all the infected teeth, while also being able to clean out the existing cyst from the sinus cavity, with no additional trauma, with the patented Hydraulic Sinus Condensing technique and instruments. All procedures were done on the same day, and the patient left our office with full upper individual implants and fixed temporary crowns. Patient’s sinus infection and blurred vision were cured within the week.
